In the spring of 2017, Black Light Design was commissioned by White architects to review, as well as supplement an existing lighting proposal for the Swedish Energy Agency's new HQ in Eskilstuna. An old metal foundry would be transformed into an activity-based, state-of-the-art office where the Swedish Energy Agency's 400 employees would relocate in the fall of 2017.
White's concept is characterized by large, airy workspace surfaces and an activity loop that extends throughout the building. When we at Black were asked to review the existing lighting proposal, the focus was on trying to move away from the traditional office lighting and through varying room and lighting experiences, creating a pleasant and soothing working environment. A significant part of the luminaires from the existing lighting proposal were repositioned and adjusted and, in cases where luminaires were already in place, the brightness was adjusted to lower levels to create a more dynamic atmosphere. With the light, we not only wanted to create a beautiful workplace but also highlight the building's fantastic space and beautiful original materials that have been preserved and refined throughout the building.
