Visby St Mary's cathedral is entirely built in the Middle Ages, of which the first parts were built as early as 1190. The church is located in Visby, and is an increasingly popular tourist destination.
In conjunction with the major renovations which were being done, an energy audit, an update of the electrical trunking and a new interior lighting scheme were undertaken. The aim was to create light conditions for the various activities of the church, such as concerts, art exhibitions and other gatherings which create new needs. In addition to this, Black wanted to highlight the strong architecture of the room with its adornments and arched roof. A new light fixture was developed specifically for the lighting of the vaults.
